MULTAN (November 15 2009): An agreement has been signed between Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco), Jamal Din Sugar Mills and Rahim Yar Khan Mills for the purchase of 10 MW electricity. A ceremony, in this regard, was held in the Mepco HQ here on Saturday in which Chief Executive Chaudhry Guftar Ahmad, GM Electrical Jamal Din Sugar Mills, Israr Muhammad Khan and Finance Manager Rahim Yar Khan Mills, Fazal-ur-Rehman signed the agreement.
Speaking on this occasion, Chaudhry Guftar Ahmad said that Mepco is taking several measures to provide electricity with better voltage to consumers and one such step is to purchase extra electricity from the private sector. He informed that the Mepco has already purchased 27 MW electricity that has been included in the national grid.
Apprising about the details of the purchase agreements, Chaudhry Guftar said that out of 27 MW, 4 MW has been purchased from Indus Sugar Mills Rajanpur, 3 MW from Jamal Din Sugar Mills, 3 MW from Ashraf Sugar Mills Bahawalpur, 4 MW from Layyah Sugar Mills and 4 MW from Roomi Sugar Mills. He further revealed that Mepco is also trying to convince some other big industrial units to invest for the production of electricity.
